PHILIPSBURG/CENTRE COUNTY, Pa — With the holiday season right around the corner, holiday shopping is on everyone’s mind but for those less fortunate, Christmas is not always so merry. The Moshannon Valley YMCA in Philipsburg has been doing their part in fixing that for over 40 years. They’ll be handing out gifts to hundreds of children this Sunday at the Moshannon Valley Enterprise Center, and while COVID has made it harder to shop, the Christmas program’s commitment hasn’t changed.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Washington Post said Sunday that its executive editor, Sally Buzbee, has stepped down after three years at the top of one of journalism's most storied brands. She will be replaced by Matt Murray, former editor in chief of The Wall Street Journal, until this fall's presidential election. Following that, Robert Winnett, currently deputy editor of the Telegraph Media Group, will take over as editor following the election.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy postponed all his upcoming foreign trips as Ukraine's army battled to contain a front-line push by the Kremlin's forces, as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday visited a drone manufacturing facility in Kyiv on the second day of a visit meant to reassure Ukrainians of continuing American support. Zelenskyy canceled all foreign visits "that were planned for the coming days," his office said Wednesday on Telegram.

ArtsAltoona Art Market gives local artists chance to make impression

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Artists in Blair County got the chance to show off their craft to the community Saturday. ArtsAltoona's seasonal art market returned, seeing dozens of vendors selling all sorts of creations. A number of the local artists didn't have storefronts of their own. Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway celebrating 85th anniversary, raising money for museum

BEDFORD CO, Pa (WJAC) — Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway is celebrating its 85th anniversary of operations this year, and is raising money to build a multi-million-dollar racing museum near the track property. The speedway, which is located along Route 30, is the oldest, active dirt track in the state of Pennsylvania. As part of the fundraiser, on Saturday, the track hosted vintage races and a car show. Fight at Harrisburg fireworks show throws crowd into chaos

HARRISBURG, Pa. — UPDATE | Harrisburg City officials addressed the chaos from the Fourth of July Celebration at Riverfront Park Tuesday. Harrisburg Police Commissioner Thomas Carter said a fight broke out around 9:30 Monday night on Walnut Street. He said thousands of community members were waiting for the fireworks show to begin, after a delay due to the Senators baseball game. Carter said the fight was between two juveniles, one of which was arrested.

Longtime Pirates 2B Stennett dies at 72 after cancer fight

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Former Pittsburgh Pirate second baseman Rennie Stennett has died following a fight with cancer. He was 72. Stennett spent nine of his 11 big league seasons with the Pirates, helping the team win the 1979 World Series. Stennett hit .274 for his career and twice received votes for the National League's Most Valuable Player award. He started at second base on Sept. 1, 1971, when the Pirates fielded the first all-Black starting lineup in MLB history.
