Johnstown, Pa — The Pennsylvania Senate recently approved a resolution introduced by Senator Wayne Langerholc that would address the issues of ‘porting’ within the Housing Choice Voucher Program. “I rise to ask for support for Senate Resolution 45,” said Langerholc. “This resolution will call on the federal government to address the issue of porting.” Langerholc introduced this resolution to the Pennsylvania Senate in March after seeing how 'porting' is impacting areas within Cambria County - especially Johnstown.

Blair Co. man facing gun, drug charges after found passed out at local Sheetz

BLAIR CO, Pa (WJAC) — A Tyrone man is facing a slew of charges related to gun and drug possession after police say they found him passed out in a vehicle at the Sheetz along Pleasant Valley Boulevard. Logan Township Police say officers were dispatched to the Sheetz location around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of a man passed out in a van near the air pump station. The release states that officers approached the vehicle and found the driver, identified as 42-year-old Justin LeFevre, asleep at the wheel.

Cat dies from BB gun wounds in Camp Hill; police search for perpetrator

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — The Camp Hill Police Department is investigating a case of animal cruelty that resulted in the death of a domestic cat named Poppy. Police say that a suspect, whose identity is unknown, reportedly shot the cat with a BB gun multiple times on the 200 block of North 24th St. Police say the abuse happened sometime overnight between Oct. 11 and 12. The cat later died from its wounds.

Diocese of Erie IDs priests and lay people accused of abuse

ERIE, Pa. (AP) -- The Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania, has published a list of 34 priests and 17 lay people who have faced credible accusations of sexual abuse or inappropriate behavior. Over 100 employees at Chan Soon-Shiong receive first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

WINDBER, Pa. (WJAC) — Hospitals in our region have started distributing Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. Friday morning, healthcare workers from Chan Soon-Shiong medical center received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Nurse and Director of Acute Care, Christine Spinos was first in line. “I was very excited to get it. We have been looking forward to it and it’s wonderful that the hospital had the opportunity to be on the first shipments for the vaccine.

Pennsylvania liquor stores open for King Day, other holidays

HARRISBURG -- Hundreds of Pennsylvania's state-owned liquor stores will be open for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as well as on other holidays for the first time in the coming year. A state law enacted last year allows the Liquor Control Board to operate on the holiday being celebrated Monday, as well as for Presidents Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day. Stores that are normally scheduled to be open on Mondays will be open on the holidays, but not the stores that are normally closed on Mondays.

WASHINGTON (TND) — Following Thursday's guilty verdict announcement against former President Donald Trump, both politicians and celebrities took to social media. Some celebrated the decision, while others defended Trump and called the verdict a disgrace. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said in part on X, formerly known as Twitter, " Today is a shameful day in American History." Representative Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., commented in part, "Donald Trump is a convicted felon.

Altoona woman charged with drug delivery resulting in man's fatal overdose

A 26-year-old Altoona woman has been charged with the overdose death of a man, who she allegedly sold multiple drugs. According to a probable-cause affidavit, in March Tylo Breon Schilling sold fentanyl and morphine to the man at the Beale Avenue Sheetz. The man was later found dead in his bedroom by his father. An autopsy showed that he had died from an overdose of multiple drugs, including fentanyl and morphine, according to the affidavit.

Annual National Pike Days held in Somerset Co.

A long-time Somerset County tradition wrapped up in the southern part of the county Friday. National Pike Days was held in Addison Borough this week. The event celebrates the national road and at one time even included covered wagons. The Addison Volunteer Fire Department showed third graders from local schools some of their equipment, from the department's oldest apparatus, an 1890 chemical cart, to its newest piece of equipment: a newly acquired brush truck.

Fire in Pennsylvania hotel sends 5 to hospital

COUDERSPORT, Pa. (AP) — Fire officials say five people were taken to a hospital for treatment after an early morning fire at a northern Pennsylvania hotel that dates back to the 19th century. The blaze on the third floor of the Hotel Crittenden in downtown Coudersport in Potter County was reported shortly after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. Chief Bryan Phelps of the Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department said 100 to 125 firefighters were called to the scene.
