Johnstown narrowly approves Sheetz liquor license transfer

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — City Council, in a 4-3 vote, approved a liquor license transfer for the Sheetz on Broad Street, paving the way for the convenience store to continue a statewide beer-selling trend. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board will still have to approve the transfer, which requires the Sheetz to do a remodel to add seating for 30 people, among other things. Ellen Freeman, a lawyer representing Sheetz at the Wednesday night meeting, said this vote is the beginning of the process, not the end.

Local Bradley's Book Outlet closing all stores, liquidation sales begin this weekend

Blair Co. elementary school dedicates garden in memory of four former students

BLAIR CO, Pa (WJAC) — Family, friends and community members of four former Ebner Elementary School students dedicated a garden in their memory Friday evening. The former students who were honored include Kea Barnes, Devon Pfirsching, Civario Ciavarella and Kaylee Kruise. Friday’s event celebrated the dedication of the Mowrie A. Ebner Memorial Garden, which was funded by the 2019 and 2020 5th and 6th grade classes. June 1 begins a likely very busy Atlantic hurricane season

WASHINGTON (7News) — June 1 is the first day of meteorological summer and it's also the first day of the Atlantic hurricane season. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts a very busy season this year, which runs through Nov. 30. NOAA forecasters anticipate an 85 percent chance for an above-normal Atlantic hurricane season in 2024. There is a 10 percent chance the season will be near-normal and a 5 percent chance the season will be below-normal.

Orcas ram boat causing it to sink near Strait of Gibraltar

SPAIN (TND) — A boat sank in Moroccan waters in the Strait of Gibraltar over the weekend after an unknown number of orcas rammed into the vessel with two passengers on board. The 10-meter-long boat sank 14 miles from Cape Spartel and the passengers were able to notify the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Tarifa for help, according toSpain's maritime rescue services. The passengers reportedly told officials they felt sudden blows to the hull and rudder before water began seeping into the boat.

Replica of local ace's P-40 Warhawk moved to front of main terminal at Johnstown airport

JOHNSTOWN - A replica of a World War II fighter that was piloted by local ace, Lt. Col Boyd "Buzz" Wagner, was moved from a nearby hangar to the front of the main terminal Friday at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport. Wagner is a native of Emeigh, Cambria County. The replica plane, purchased through a fundraising campaign of more than two years, is a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, which Wagner flew in World War II as a member of the Army Air Corps.
