'Softball size rocks' thrown at firefighters battling flames at homeless camp: documents

OLYMPIA, Wash. (KOMO) — A man was arrested after police said he threw "softball size rocks" at firefighters who were responding to an active fire in Washington state. "In the last few weeks there have been several incidents of individuals interfering with Olympia Fire Department personnel responding to emergencies," the Olympia Police Department (OFD) wrote on X Thursday. The suspect was booked for third-degree assault, police said. Charges have also been referred for suspects in other recent incidents, police added.

Altoona Salvation Army offering Thanksgiving meal this weekend

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — The Salvation Army in Altoona has been preparing all this week to feed 200 to 300 community members a Thanksgiving meal this weekend. And organizers want you to know you are invited to the dinner. Volunteers are preparing 14 20-pound turkeys, along with various side dishes to make the meal complete. Organizers say the dinner is open to anyone for a time of fellowship, connecting with one another and enjoying good conversation.

Clearfield County cemetery is off limits to visitors

PENFIELD - People in Clearfield County are being stopped from visiting the graves of loved ones. People with family buried at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Penfield said they noticed a fence with a no trespassing sign sometime last week around the graveyard. Property records show Bruce Gerber owns the property. People visiting the cemetery said they were told Gerber is stopping them from entering because of liability issues. 6 News tried calling a number believed to be Gerber's but those calls were not returned.

Storm damage forces Laurel Hill State Park to close campground

Laurel Hill State Park is not accepting new arrivals to its campground because the conditions are unsafe after a storm knocked over trees, light polls, and power lines Thursday night park officials said. They said it is not known right now how long the campground will be closed. "Making sure that our campground is safe for visitors is our number one priority right now," Assistant Park Manager Kelsey Hope said. "

Va. man arrested in connection to Mount Union double murder, cold case

Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — Huntingdon County District Attorney David Smith has announced the arrest of a Virginia man in connection to a 13-year-old cold case/double murder in Mount Union. Authorities say Morico Johnson, 47, of Newport News, Virginia, was arrested earlier this week and charged with two counts of criminal homicide in the shooting deaths of 31-year-old Beatrice Daniels and her 22-year-old niece Christine McWhorter in January of 2009.

'Suspension lifted:' Former Westmont teacher Shawn Miller eligible to teach again in PA

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — There is another update on the case of a former Westmont teacher who was accused of raping an elementary student in 2015. The Department of Education tells 6 News that Shawn Miller is clear to teach again in the state. As we reported last week, the Cambria County district attorney dismissed the second and only remaining assault charge against Miller. In May of 2022, Miller was arrested for raping one student and for indecent assault of another.

Parents charged with child neglect after 8-year-old jumps from window in search of food

CALHOUN COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — Two parents have been charged after a young child jumped out of a window and showed up at a nearby business claiming she hadn’t eaten in days, court records said. Ryan Keith Hardman and Ellio Magthalena Hardman, both 33, of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia, are charged with child neglect with risk of serious bodily injury or death and conspiracy, according to criminal complaints filed in Calhoun County Magistrate Court.
