Hollidaysburg man accused of handcuffing, raping teen girl while she slept

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Cambria County have filed charges against a Hollidaysburg man following an investigation into accusations that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl earlier this year. Troopers say in February, authorities were contacted by the victim's mother to report that the teen had allegedly been raped by 22-year-old Trevor Zimmerman in late January. Authorities say Zimmerman, who was reportedly a friend of the victim's sibling, had allegedly been staying with the victim and her family for a few days when the alleged assault occurred.

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A Centre County man was arrested last week and is facing federal charges in connection to the January 6th Capitol riot. Officials say it’s not the first time that he's been accused of attacking members of law enforcement personnel. In the federal complaint against Terry Allen, of Spring Mills, there are multiple photos of him amongst the riot crowd on the U.S. Capitol steps on January 6th, 2021.

3 killed, 49 injured in Pennsylvania charter bus crash

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — At least three people are dead after a charter bus crash in Pennsylvania Sunday night. According to Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), the incident happened around 11:49 p.m. on I-81 in Dauphin County. PSP reported a 2005 Van Hool tour bus was traveling from New York during a heavy downpour when the crash happened. While traveling, officials said the bus attempted to wind around a right curve when it noticed a 2016 Honda CRV stopped in southbound traffic.

Former Arkansas teacher sentenced for sexual misconduct with student

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — Heather Hare, a former high school teacher, has been sentenced to 13 years in a federal sexual assault case, along with 20 years to be served concurrently, in a Saline County Circuit Court sexual assault case. According to a news release from the Eastern District of Arkansas, Hare taught Family Consumer Science classes at Bryant High School. After meeting the minor victim in their senior year, she gave them one-on-one counseling sessions, leading to giving them her personal phone number and maintaining contact on social media sites like Instagram and Snapchat.

Penn State University police officers now equipped with body cams

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa (WJAC) — According to a university release, all Penn State police officers will now be equipped with body cams, beginning Monday, May 17th. Officials say this decision allows Penn State police to be more transparent and accountable, and also helps support safety for both the officers and the community. “This important step builds on our ongoing efforts to cultivate a more trusting relationship with community members,” said Charlie Noffsinger, associate vice president for Penn State University Police and Public Safety (UPPS).

In the world of pumpkin chunkin - using catapults, sometimes even cannons, to send pumpkins hundreds of feet in the air - Jim Fuller, also known as "Fat Jimmy," is a legend. He was working in architecture when a friend and fellow architect, suggested they have fun and build a catapult. “So about two weeks, we all got together and built this thing and our first throw went about three hundred feet, even though the design said it would go about a thousand feet,” Fuller said.

Rose Bowl appearance leads to State College merchandise sales boom

STATE COLLEGE - The Penn State football team has departed for Southern California, where it will play in the Rose Bowl, but businesses back in State College are still benefiting from merchandise sales leading up to the big game. One local store, McLanahan’s Penn State Room, said the team’s recent success has increased sales both in the store and online. “People area ordering – it’s tenfold of what we’ve had in the past,” said Jennifer Schoch, manager of McLanahan’s.

Steelers trade WR Diontae Johnson to Panthers

PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded wide-receiver Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers. NFL Insider Adam Schefter announced the trade Tuesday night. The Steelers will receive defensive-back Donte Jackson in return, and the two teams will swap 2024 draft picks. Johnson was drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In five seasons for the Steelers, Johnson played in 77 career games and 391 total passes, for over 4,300 yards and 25 touchdowns.

2 transported to hospital after semitrailer overturns

ALUM BANK, Pa. (WJAC) — Two people were taken to a hospital after a semitrailer overturned Saturday morning. According to Bedford County dispatchers, the crash happened at the Peggy Westover Curve on Route 56. Dispatchers said no other vehicles were involved in the crash and state police in Bedford County were investigating. Alum Bank Fire Department, Chestnut Ridge Emergency Medical Services and another EMS unit from Cambria County also assisted state police.
