Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — The 2017 death of Penn State student Timothy Piazza drew nationwide attention to fraternity hazing and led to anti-hazing legislation here in Pennsylvania. Surprisingly, the Piazza case is still being argued in court and according to a new ruling from a federal judge, it could be well over a year before it's resolved. Investigators say Timothy Piazza died after attending a pledge event in February of 2017 at the former Beta Theta Pi fraternity house at Penn State.

School counselor nabbed for sexual misconduct, giving liquor to student: Police

REDMOND, Wash. (KOMO) — A Redmond High School counselor has been arrested for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student, the Redmond Police Department announced in a news release Friday. The RPD said 35-year-old Derik Detweiler, of Kenmore, was taken into custody without incident in Cody, Wyoming, on Thursday. Detweiler will remain in custody until he is extradited back to Washington. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Detweiler with communication with a minor for immoral purposes, sexual misconduct with a minor in the second degree and supplying liquor to a minor.

'They think they're in love:' online Romance Scams increasing in Cambria County

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Imagine going on a dating website looking for love, but ending up falling for a scammer. The "master of disguise" pretends to be somebody else, luring those seeking romance into a "romance scam" instead. "They want to believe that they have this relationship. They want to believe it." That's what M. Veil Griffith -- the Administrator for the Cambria County Area Agency on Aging -- told 6 News after seeing an increase in these scams.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Conemaugh Health System has named its next CEO. William Caldwell will be taking over the reigns after Steve Tucker announced his retirement in June after 33 years. His retirement goes into effect Sept. 7. “Bill is an experienced health care executive known for his passion for quality care, strong operational skills, and unwavering commitment to employees, physicians and patients," said Victor Giovanetti, LifePoint Health Eastern Group president. Caldwell has been CEO of Wilson Medical Center, a Duke LifePoint health care facility, in North Carolina since 2014.

Former pharmacy exec gets 10-year sentence for role in meningitis outbreak that killed 11

HOWELL, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan judge sentenced the former executive of a specialty pharmacy to at least 10 years in prison Friday for the deaths of 11 people who were injected with tainted pain medication, part of a meningitis outbreak that affected hundreds across the U.S. in 2012. Barry Cadden's sentence for involuntary manslaughter will be served at the same time as his current 14 1/2-year federal sentence for crimes tied to the outbreak.

More than 30 dogs rescued from back of locked U-Haul trailer in scorching heat

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Oklahoma City police have released body camera footage of officers rescuingover 30 dogs from the back of a U-Haul truck in scorching June heat. On June 5, OKC officers were called to a Walmart parking lot after staff noticed a U-Haul parked in the middle of a hot afternoon that sounded and smelt like it was full of animals. Officers had to cut off a lock to access the inside of the U-Haul trailer.

PA Military Museum commemorates Pearl Harbor attack

The Pennsylvania Military Museum wants to keep it that way. 81 years ago, Wednesday, the naval and air forces of the Japanese Empire launched a surprise attack on the U.S. base in Pearl Harbor. Military veterans and their families made their way to Boalsburg on a not-so-sunny day, to honor the memory of those lost that fateful day in Hawaii.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The people of Johnstown displayed extraordinary resilience and strength following the Great Johnstown Flood of 1889. They collectively mourned the loss of those of those who died, and immediately went to work on creating gravesites and lasting memorials for them. Friday, 135 years after that fateful day, the National Park Service continues to somberly pay their respects to the victims. Earlier Friday afternoon, at seven minutes after four, the time that the flood waters reached Johnstown, park rangers laid wreaths at the north and south dam abutments, and at 5 p.
