Annual Tyrone march for nameless, baby girl found dead in 1987 to happen Sunday

TYRONE, Pa. (WJAC) — An annual tradition in Tyrone is to march for the life of an dead baby girl found over 30 years ago. This Sunday, they'll do that again. 6 News spoke with those involved in the march and about the legacy she leaves. February 1987 in Antis Township, a baby girl is found dead in a plastic bag, next to a dumpster. Over three decades later, nobody knows her name or who she is — even after DNA testing.

Court documents give more details on DuBois city manager's alleged crimes

DUBOIS, Pa. (WJAC) — We're learning more about the alleged crimes of DuBois City Manager John "Herm" Suplizio, whom the state attorney general said was arrested Monday on fraud and theft charges. McDonald's looking to hire 150 new employees in State College area

STATE COLLEGE, Pa (WJAC) — McDonald's announced Thursday that its restaurants in the State College area are attempting to fill 150 new openings, according to a release. The release adds that beginning Friday, all five area restaurants will begin a "quick-hire initiative" in an attempt to fill these positions. “We are in a very difficult and uncertain time,” said Owner/Operator Joe Nyanko. “The local economy has taken a major hit with the loss of many annual events and the university’s pause in operations.

SFU student pleads no contest in assault case; receives probation

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Cambria County officials say a Saint Francis student who was accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside a campus dormitory has entered a plea in the case. Authorities say Kendal Marks appeared in court earlier this week where he pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of simple assault. Marks was charged last May following an investigation into allegations that he assaulted a fellow student inside a university dorm room.

Annual Ferndale Jubilee returns; no parade being held this year

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — The 91st annual Ferndale Firemen's Jubilee is underway this week, with the opening ceremony being held Monday evening. The jubilee will be open every day, until Saturday, from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Officials add that the kitchen will open an hour earlier, at 5 p.m., every day. Due to the rise in fuel costs, officials say there will be no parade this year, but still plenty of fun with rides, a weeklong 50/50, games and food.

Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown headquarters moves to new location

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — The Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown is moving its central offices. Its headquarters will be moving from Hollidaysburg to the former Our Lady of Lourdes school in Altoona. The new location will be open for business June 17. According to a newsletter from the diocese, the new location will be called the Mary Mother of the Church Pastoral Center. The former school has been converted into office space and will house a television studio for the production of the “Proclaim!

Mo-Valley prison to reopen as federal immigrant detention center, commissioners say

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Clearfield County took public comment and voted on allowing an area prison to operate as an immigrant detention center. Clearfield County commissioners approved a five-year agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, and the privately-run GEO group to operate Moshannon Valley Correctional Center as an immigrant detention center. The prison closed in March, but the deal wasn't without its concerns. Commissioners say that migrants will not be released from the facility into Clearfield County.
