West Hills Community Church celebrates groundbreaking ceremony at new location

Johnstown, Pa. (WJAC) — West Hills Community Church is moving to a new location, says their lead pastor David Streets. Church leaders celebrated the move with a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday afternoon. Streets says the church has been renting space out of the Westmont Church of the Brethren, along Sunshine Avenue in Westmont, since 2014. The new location of the church is 175 Woodmont Road, near Westmont Hilltop High School in Upper Yoder Township.

Fire crews respond to Burger King fire

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — Emergency crews responded to a building fire in Richland Township Saturday morning. According to Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department, the fire broke out at the Galleria Burger King after 9 a.m. Richland Towhship Volunteer Fire Department Chief said there was minimal damage to the building, however the Burger King will be closed until inspections can be done. The cause of the fire was grease in the hood system.

Naked 1-year-old child found alone in woods

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — State police say a 1-year-old child is safe after her mother left her alone and naked in the woods in Lancaster County Monday night. Troopers say they found the 17-month-old girl in the woods behind a trailer park in Providence Township just after midnight. They believe the girl had been there for about three hours. Police charged the child's mother, 33-year-old Angela Benedict, with child endangerment.

PA man arrested after being caught dismembering girlfriend's body

Philadelphia, PA (CNN) — Police in Pennsylvania say they arrested a man while he was dismembering his girlfriend. Police responded to a domestic call at an apartment complex in Clifton Heights on Friday. When they went to the back of the home and looked inside, authorities say they found Nicholas Scurria dismembering a woman's head. They took the 32-year-old into custody and reported finding several weapons inside of the home, including a machete.

Tomlin abruptly leaves press conference when asked about his contract

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers’ latest one-and-done playoff appearance is raising questions about Mike Tomlin’s future. The NFL’s longest tenured coach was in no mood to talk about it Monday night. Tomlin walked off the podium at his postgame news conference following a 31-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills when a reporter began with, “Mike, you have a year left on your contract.” The abrupt exit only heightened speculation about what’s next for Tomlin and the Steelers.

'Give me a reason!' Man charged for pulling gun during altercation at crash scene

Cameron County, PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Cameron County have charged an Emporium man after he allegedly pulled a gun on another individual during an altercation at the scene of a crash earlier this week. Police say on Monday, around 11 p.m., troopers were responding to a vehicle crash along West Allegany Ave. when they received a report that one of the individuals on scene has brandished a weapon. Troopers say, according to witnesses, two nearby residents were attempting to assist the driver involved in the crash when a third man, identified as 30-year-old David Akins Jr.

Altoona Curve duo ready for Seinfeld references

ALTOONA -- There have been some dynamic duos in professional baseball over the years, and there's a new one starring in Altoona this summer. Kramer and Newman is not a Seinfeld spin-off, it's the middle infield for the 2017 Altoona Curve. The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted shortstop Kevin Newman in the first round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. One round later, came second baseman Kevin Kramer. This will be the first season they are playing together in Class AA.

Altoona man accused of repeated sexual assault of young girl at farm, camp

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Hollidaysburg say a 74-year-old Altoona man is behind bars following an investigation into accusations that he repeatedly sexually assaulted a young girl for nearly three years. Troopers say they began investigating Jerry Fultz in April of 2021 after the victim, who was 14 at the time, reportedly told a family friend that he would often take her "into the woods" at her family's farm, and at his camp, and would sexually assault her.
